A far-reaching examination of some of the UK's most celebrated dramatists.
At the Sharp End is a critical examination of the work of five leading dramatists who have made an indelible mark on today's theatre. Peter Billingham introduces and analyses the work of David Edgar, Mark Ravenhill, David Greig, Tanika Gupta and Tim Etchells of Sheffield-based experimental theatre group, Forced Entertainment, and combines his analysis with interviews with each of the dramatists.
In 2005 David Edgar's massive new work Playing With Fire premiered at the National Theatre and provided a far-reaching study of multi-racial Britain as a follow up to his 1976 classic Destiny.
Prolific Scottish playwright David Greig has enjoyed a long and successful career writing for the stage: in 2005 alone he had four plays staged in London. His most recent work - Yellow Moon - premiered in Glasgow in 2006.
In 1996 Mark Ravenhill exploded onto the theatre scene with Shopping and F***ing. Since then his plays have continued to provoke and outrage in their exploration of the darker side of human passions and motivations.
Tanika Gupta won the John Whiting Award for The Waiting Room and more recently her play Sugar Mummies - a provocative and revealing study of the pleasures and pitfalls of female sex tourism - premiered at the Royal Court Theatre.
Forced Entertainment are regarded as 'Britain's most brilliant experimental theatre company' (Guardian) who tour work all over the UK and Europe.
