The rural areas of Estonia and Latvia are characterised by numerous manor houses. In the past decades, a few of them have been renovated, but the majority of them have fallen into disrepair. Anja Putensen's The Manor is subjective photographic research that leads to these historical locations of Baltic manor house culture. Just as memory often consists of in part factual, in part fictitious lines of vision, her perspective is also a poetic, magical one. The photos are also supplemented by numerous historical Estonian, Latvian, and German-Baltic childhood memories.
