Troy DeAngelis is in the hottest band from Year 8 - at least he thinks they could have been, if only the announcer at the school concert hadn't introduced them as "Lethal Breath" instead of Laser Death.
His band may not be on the verge of stardom, but that's the least of Troy's real worries. Troy's parents have just separated, his twin sister Grace is going out with the King of the Neanderthal people - no-brain Tracka, and while his Mum has turned to writing children's books his father is still "finding himself".
Troy begins to question his role in his parent's split, and struggles to understand where his loyalty should lie. It is from the most unlikely source that Troy finds hope and the chance to express what is going on inside. Through many hilarious situations, and the development of the band, Troy begins to distinguish between when the static is real, and when it is self-inflicted.
