Amos is a mouse with oceangoing dreams, and Boris is a whale who is kind enough to save his life at sea: the pair become devoted friends with nothing at all in common, except good hearts and a willingness to help their fellow mammal. Amos wants so much to show his gratitude to his new friend, but it will not be until many years later, long after Boris has gone back to a life of whaling about and Amos has gone back to his life of mousing around, when the tiny mouse can find a way to rescue the great whale.
