Georgie has a habit of picking up strays. It started with cats and dogs, but increasingly, much to her sister-in-law Louise’s exasperation, it has moved on to people. The two women run The Reading Room book shop and Louise just wishes that Georgie could experience the happiness she has found with Georgie’s brother Nick.
Mac and Anna’s relationship is cracking under the strain of infertility. To outsiders they have the perfect marriage, but for years Anna has endured countless intrusive procedures and Mac doesn’t know for how much longer he can cope with her pain and disappointment.
And then Liam walks into The Reading Room and Georgie turns over a new leaf. She is determined not to naively rush in, but to take this relationship one day at a time. Meanwhile Anna and Mac have a damaging argument which sets Mac on a path that will have unforeseen consequences for them all.
Dianne Blacklock, author of 'Call Waiting' and 'Wife For Hire', expertly crafts a story of interweaving relationships which asks that crucial question: if there is no such thing as the ‘perfect partner’ how do you know when to settle for Almost Perfect?
