Steve Ross has had enough. Of gambling. Of losing. Of feeling bad about losing. Of lying to his wife about losing. Of worrying about what he's going to do when he's lost it all (the money, that is, followed by the wife and kids).
So naturally enough he makes a bet with himself. If his gambling account is in the black at the end of the year, he'll carry on. If it isn't, he'll top himself and leave Maggie to cop the insurance. That way, at least, the kids are looked after and he can escape the hell his life is fast becoming.
With Steve's luck it could go either way. But one thing's a dead cert. For the next twelve months he's going to experience the thrill of the ultimate high-stakes game . . .
