Akimbo loves his life on the game reserve, and the animals that live there. In this story he finds out all about baboons, and comes closer than he would like to a much more dangerous animal.
The school holidays have arrived and Akimbo is looking forward to his cousin Kosi coming to visit him on the game reserve where Akimbo's father is head ranger. And then another visitor arrives: a lady called Jen who is studying baboons, and who has even spent time living with them!
When Akimbo and Kosi hear that Jen needs an assistant to come with her into the bush and observe a large pack of baboons, they jump at the chance. Watching these fascinating animals is so much fun, but being close to the baboons means being close to their predators too . . .
