AUTHOR: PAOLO NOVARESIO was born in Turin in 1954 and graduated with a degree in Contemporary History. A traveller, historian and writer, he has always worked in the field of exploration methods. By car, on foot and using local transportation, he has covered numerous itineraries in the lesser known areas of Africa, from the Sahara Desert to the Congo Basin, as well as East and South Africa. Novaresio has sailed the Nile and Aruwimi, and crossed Lake Tanganyika. On foot, he has also explored vast regions of the Sahara and the Suguta Valley in Kenya. Following a long journey across the Dark Continent between 1981 to 1983, he stayed in Kenya for over a year, studying the culture and transhumance routes of the Samburu and Turkana nomads. He has recently concentrated his research in Kenya, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Novaresio also oversees the logistical preparation of trips and scientific expedition, and has contributed articles on African history and civilization to numerous newspapers and magazines.
