Oswald Thake is an Eton-educated, eligible bachelor who shares more than a few genes with Bertie Wooster. In his letters home from his travels, he describes (without ever fully understanding) his travails at the hands of the many con-artists, floozies and desperate widows who follow him wherever he goes. With the exception of one or two lapses, Thake retains his sunny naivety throughout these difficulties, even though - unlike Wooster - he has no Jeeves to finesse him out of trouble.
