Women now make up the largest group of religious dropouts in Western society. The religious and ritual forms that have been shaped by men can be alienating to women who spend much of their lives searching for their faith. Just as medical treatments reached by and for men were expected to apply to women, so religions created by and for men are somehow expected to work equally well for women. For more than a decade, Joan Borysenko has led workshops and retreats that focus on women's spiritual development. Through this work she has discovered the path to spirituality for many women differs from that for men.
