An ABC Radio tribute to Wally Foreman, beloved sports commentator and former director of the 'WA Institute of Sport'.
Wally Foreman touched Western Australia in a very broad way through his directorship of the 'WA Institute of Sport,' which he started in 1984. After 17 years he opted to return to full time broadcasting in order to spend more time with his family. The day after we learned of his passing, fellow 'Grandstand' team members Glenn Mitchell and Karen Tighe got together with Promotions guru Adam Sallur to put together this tribute.
Glenn Mitchell recalls Wally explaining why he didn't go to the Barcelona Olympics... it was because the money it would take to send him could be used to help an athlete achieve his or her dream.
Karen Tighe highlighted the wonderful intimate medium of radio that brought Wally into our lives, a medium in which he excelled. This tribute takes you through his administration days, his commentary, his technological dilemmas and some of the hilarious bloopers which are a part of every broadcaster's portfolio. His sense of humour comes through loud and clear, as does his passion for sport.
