A Passion For Life, A Passion For Cooking.
Stefano de Pieri grew up along the waterways of the Veneto, that region in Italy that culminates at the Adriatic Sea at Venice. His childhood was spent surrounded by laughter, politics, music and , most particularly, food. Everything was grown and gathered in good season, and every part of it used.
From this seasonality of fresh produce, Stefano learnt how to cook delectable and robust dishes based on what was available, a practice he still follows today in this restaurant, Stefan's, in the Grand Hotel in Mildura.
'A Gondola on the Murray' is a collection of over 100 recipes accompanied by full colour and black and white photographs and beautiful line drawings that will tempt, provoke and encourage. It also ranges across Stefano's entertaining childhood stories, advice, commentary and some pertinent poetry about food. Unafraid to air controversial views, he has a wicked sense of humour and, importantly a practical approach to cooking.
Fresh, entertaining, amusing and, above all, a delight to use in the kitchen, 'A Gondola on the Murray' will be read and used with pleasure for years to come.
