Okay, let me start by saying this is definitely not what I expected.
However, unsurprisingly, she’s done it again.
I hate how much I loved this book because it has taken me away from my very real responsibilities which I completely shirked to reread this 10 times.
But This. Book. Is. Everything.
Sarah J Maas’s novels are a genre unto themselves.
She somehow manages to combine fantasy; dark and epic, action adventure, romance, erotica, suspense, motivational fiction, speculative fiction, and women’s fiction into a rich tapestry of transcending awesomeness that I can never put them down.
Sarah J Maas is the Queen of female empowerment.
Feminism can be a tough theme to convey without sounding preachy or sending the message at the expense of males. But her stories always have me wanting to “YAASS QUEEN” pretty much the whole book.
The male characters throughout all her novels have incredibly raw, grounding and vulnerable moments/scenes while still remaining the most powerful, feared and (of course) sexy warriors. They also possess alpha male qualities while obliterating the notion of toxic masculinity. Once again, another thing she excels at.
The character development in this story is heartbreakingly breathtaking and yet again so, so raw. It truly represents in the most honest way why some people act out against people who love them and how difficult it can be to dispel anger, hatred, jealousy and bitterness from ones heart.
The main reason I am giving this 5 stars is because this book managed to do what no other has, and wholly affected me on a very real, intrinsic level.
It changed my perspective on how to tackle certain aspects in my life and played much like a self-help book on how to face challenges. Except this self-help book actually took root and worked for me.
I literally use many of the techniques mentioned in the book on a daily basis to manage fear and centre myself.
I am so grateful that this story was written and thank Sarah with my whole heart for overcoming whatever she did by writing this.
