Each year we see another addition to the legend of the Bathurst 1000, Australia’s iconic motor race. This year, 2018, was no different. There were sub-plots all over the place, rain that washed away practice sessions, a brilliant qualifying session that fed into an amazing Shootout... and then there was the race. 161 laps and a touch more than 1000km of the best drivers in Australia going toe-to-toe on a mountain that breaks hearts and fulfills dreams in lopsided proportions. And heartbreak outweighs dreams one Sunday in every October at Mount Panorama. This year’s race was no different. There was a wheel falling off a contender, engines that decided to go no further, teammates crashing with each other, a race leader whose body was melting down and then through it all, the crowd favourites came through to win. Craig Lowndes and Steven Richards were popular winners, and the fairy tale was real.
