The 2010 Granta Writers Diary features fifty-two fascinating stories - one for each week - from the lives of Granta writers, including the day that Raymond Carver gave up drinking; the day Jackie Kay travelled to Nigeria to meet her birth father, the born-again Christian; the day Richard Ford failed to get a job at Sports Illustrated magazine (and went home and wrote The Sportswriter); the day Thomas Keneally first heard the story of Schindler's List in a handbag shop in LA.
In addition to this each month is handsomely illustrated by one of twelve full-colour illustrations featuring reproductions of letters from the Granta archive alongside some of the best photography and graphic art from the magazine. Contributing artists and photographers include Simon Roberts, David Heatley and Nigel Shafran.
