In 1967, audiences at the Monterey Pop Festival discovered the powerful voice of Janis Joplin for the first time. Her work with Big Brother and The Holding Company and as a solo artist defined the changing landscape of rock music in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and her unmistakable vocals on “Piece of My Heart,” “Cry Baby” and the posthumous chart-topper “Me and Bobby McGee” inspired generations of female vocalists to pour their hearts out on stage. Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits, released in 1973.
